Group therapy is a powerful and very effective approach to dealing with a combination of mental health and life issues. Research has shown that group therapy is often more efficacious than individual counseling alone. At Meghan L. Reitz & Assoc. we pride ourselves on a proactive and solution focused approach so that we can attend to each client's goals and get them to a better more healthy place. This is true in both the individual and group counseling we provide.

Group therapy or counseling can consist of many different components. Some groups are open-ended, meaning they have no specific start or end time frame. Often group members can join and leave at any time without a specific course of action. These are usually touted as support groups and encompass processing certain, but broader, issues.

Some groups are closed, meaning they have a specific start and end time frame. This typically means that group members all start and end at the same time with a finite number of group meetings. These usually are more structured and focused with a concentration on teaching/learning specific skill sets.

In a group, individuals can receive and offer feedback to each other. We tend to listen and take guidance more from others experiencing similar issues than we would to a counselor or professional. Group counseling is a great forum to explore issues in a safe environment with the support of others.
